There are many more things to do in Salt Lake City. Let’s say, the Great Salt Lake. During winter, this state capital in the Southwestern is transformed into one of the most sought after skiing resorts. During summer people go out on “brews and bikes” rides which are barbecue rides with bicycles, trolley rides around Temple Square and other religious places. In the indoors, there are lots of things to do in Salt Lake City, including; the Tabernacle Choir, days at the Natural History Museum as well as at Clark Planetarium. I have discussed some given below.
Table of Contents
ToggleWander Memory Grove Park
A view of Memory Grove in Salt Lake shows how vibrant the place looks. In that case, you can continue the walk from the Anderson Tower Monument until you come to a path down to the creek level. There is quite a large dedicated dog park located down at the bottom of the panorama if your well behaved dogs are allowed to run free near the water.
On its left, after following the path from the bottom, you will come across several war memorials and monuments. On the other side is a man made one with water. It is surely one of the most photoholic spots of the area. So even if your photo capacity is over, wait around for a while and enjoy the view from here. You will probably have to come back to where you were when you get done with all of them though.
Tour the McCune Mansion
This Mansion has been listed in famous things to do in Salt Lake City for decades.
The McCune Mansion instantly gets a feeling of a castle rather than a historic house with McCune’s mansion not always seeming like one. As early as when they began construction of the home in Capitol Hill, they intended to build a “simple” bungalow.
Rich people are so extra. Special organized tours of the mansion are possible only on some days of the month. Because the hours may change based on Utah’s schedule. Be sure to visit their website to check if your visit falls within a tour.
Climb Ensign Peak: One of the Best Things To Do in Salt Lake City
One of the best rewards in the city is on one of the shortest and steepest trails of one mile each way. It’s great if you want to take your dog along for the ride but a bit breezy when you get to the summit.

In addition to your hike, there are several trails which join and interconnect the Ensign Peak trails. A series of billboards that are posted along the route explain what the Mormans have to do with this place. This is the hill a few of the pioneers climbed several days after the Brigham Young festival. That made them buy the notion of establishing their homeland here. After they capture the views you will understand it too.
See architectural design of the Salt Lake City Public Library
You can surely pick up your next mountain or beach novel here. But what you will most appreciate is the building that houses the Salt Lake City Public Library. The five storey library is a rectangular structure with a curved wall of glass. Enjoy a brunch here at the Hemingway Cafe which is also inside the museum. They have starters, salads and sandwiches if you need something lighter; they also serve some snacks.
Visit Somber Donner Hill
The drive into Emigration Canyon today is a beautiful one, but if you have attended the Donner Party of 1873, then the journey would be far from beautiful. Go to the marker with the info about the doomed journey of these pioneers that inspired the story of Yellowjackets. This is a large marker only but the exploration that you will later make of what went down here will claim the better part of your night.

Visit the Place Heritage Park: One of the Most Fun Things to do in Salt Lake City
I plan on dividing all of the different activities into ones that are located in this larger park. But if you’re bringing children with you, you will need the tickets for the paid area of the park. It can be a living pioneer village with trainers and shows of how people used to live when they were pioneers. When I visited, there was a blacksmith at work and a pen of baby animals including baby goats. They also had kids doing some hard work and were pulling the push carts as well.
Just a little cheesy for adults but plenty enjoyable for children. If you are around on working weekdays, be prepared to come across one or two field visits on weekends. If you want to walk the park, you will get enough steps in. There’s also a train that goes around different Salt Lake city attractions in the park and has some explanation on its loudspeakers.
I like rather dramatic sculptures. And, in my opinion, the best part was the series of sculptures telling about everything the pioneers experienced while settling this territory. The park currently has Native American village outside the park area and it was not very authentic looking for me. Mormon pioneers are definitely the focus of the park.
Pony Express National Historic Trail
This monument and easy trail are also in the Place Heritage Park, though you don’t have to pay to get in here either.
The Pony Express monument is beneath the large Mormon Battalion Monument that is closer to your eye level if that’s the first one you notice. You’ll probably have horses on the opposite side of the road. It all felt very noisy. Take the feeling of an old home on the campus of the University of Utah.
On your way to the next location below you can look at the nicely groomed lawns and grassy areas, but the University of Utah campus is beautiful nonetheless. Oh, there are no parties here. This is a dry campus so don’t get your hopes up. Osteria Amore is located to the north of this location. If you would like a taste of amore before the football stadium I’m about to introduce next.
Go and Visit the Utah Museum of Fine Arts
This is the last point of attraction on the University of Utah campus. The Utah Museum of Fine Arts (UFMA) can have something for everybody with a few exhibits that change as well as a number of permanent pieces, including hot dog bridges and the American West and Chinese ceramics and funerary art.

My favorite item was probably this enormous hall covered with murals related to the pandemic. These are messages of hope and togetherness and not of suffering which is something that we could all do with a little more of today.
Be proud at the Olympic and Paralympic Cauldron Plaza
Lighting of the Torch, there was a flame burning in an Olympic site in Salt Lake City. In a technical sense, this is part of the University of Utah, but few glances or quick visits would have you bet on that. It is located just outside the college football stadium.
One of the primary things to do in Salt Lake city is the cauldron that contained the Olympic torch of the Olympic Winter Games. Before you head there, drop by the informational plaques that are posted around the actual location. More on that later, but do not skip the hilarious picture taking spot where you get to determine how you want to pose with the medal of your particular sport of interest.
Conclusion
